David Julia Music
David Julia has been performing live since the age of seven, he has performed at festival's, music halls, cruise ships, fund raisers, private parties, blues clubs all up and down the U.S. east coast and even sang the national anthem at an Orlando Magic Basketball game. He had an ongoing gig at a hometown restaurant every Friday night for over a year at the age of ten.
At the age of twelve he met Ellard James "Moose" Boles (Lou Reed's bass player) and was invited to play some blues in Key West Florida, since then David was all in with the blues! Searching for a place to quench his thirst for playing blues music, David stumbled across the Alley Blues bar in Sanford, Florida. He soon became a regular each Sunday at the longest running blues jam in central Florida and spent the next year honing his skills.
One day David reached out to Blues artist and jam host Mark Telesca at the world famous "Funky Biscuit" in Boca Raton, Florida. At the Funky Biscuit David continued his growth and love of blues with help from his new friend. Touring blues musicians frequently attended the Monday night pro-jams at the Biscuit and Mark would place David on stage with the touring blues musicians and watched as David not only held his own but shined.
Mark was scheduled to compete in the international blues competition in Memphis, Tennessee and suggested David go observe and learn as much as he can. David not only went he got an opportunity show his ability and again he shined. In Memphis after performing on the iconic Rum Boogie Cafe stage he was approached by a member of the blues society about generation blues for young blues musicians.
In Memphis David went to see one of his favorite blues musicians perform Bob Margolin (Muddy Waters long time guitar player) whom he had met once before at the funky biscuit. He was explained that Bob was holding a "Chicago Blues" workshop at Jorma Kaukonen's (Jefferson Airplane) Fur Peace Ranch in Ohio and Generation blues would sponsor him. Getting a chance to learn from Bob was an opportunity David just could not pass up. He had the added pleasure at the ranch of sitting in on a class from blues icon Doug McCloud as well. After an amazing week of music David was inspired by the teachings he received from Bob and Doug to finish up some music he was working on and record his first EP.
Twelve to fifteen hour days in Tru-Noyz studio's Ft. Lauderdale, Florida recording for the first time David was in his element. He was a natural, with his friend Mark Telesca producing, playing p-bass and up-right bass, Albert Poliak on the B-3 (owner of the Funky Biscuit) and Chris Peet’s drumming (Southern Hospitality and JP Soars) made for an experience of a life time for young David. To David's surprise Mark invited one of David's Guitar idols and master bluesman Matt Schofield to stop by during the session for some coaching and encouragement.
The success of David’s first recording “Simple Things” introduced to the blues world this young up and coming guitarist, singer/songwriter. More importantly it fueled the fire inside David to produce and perform his music at every opportunity. He returned to Memphis in 2016 at age 14 and represented the South Florida Blues Society in the youth showcase as a solo artist. David put together an international band “CrossBoarder Blues” while representing the Orange Blossom Blues Society again in Memphis in 2017.
Things coming together for the young blues artist, in early 2017 at age sixteen David put together “The David Julia Band” and began playing all over Florida as well as out of state festivals, music halls and blues clubs promoting himself, the band and his CD. The band entered the Suncoast Blues Society’s blues challenge and emerged victorious ensuring the band’s advancement to the International Blues Challenge of 2018 in Memphis.
In January just Two weeks before the IBC’s in Memphis, David traveled out to Nederland, Texas to record his newest LP “Inspired” with award winning musician and producer Mike Zito. The recording will be released on Vizztone Records this October with promotional shows and touring to follow.
David has the intangible gift of the blues. With a second recording under his belt and the future in front of him, we are seeing a diamond in the ruff that will continue to be polished by experience and musical fortitude. Look for good things in the life and times of David Julia.
